Early Years

Early Years Overview

At Beaconhouse Sri Inai we welcome students from 4 years old to join our early years Reception class. The children will follow the English National Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which prepares them for their learning journey as they enter year 1.

Children develop quickly in their early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important in its own right and together with high-quality early learning provides the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. The partnership between parents and teachers is vital to ensure the child flourishes.

EARLY YEARS STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

Areas Of Development

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum promotes students learning to ensure primary school readiness and gives children a broad range of knowledge and skills. At Beaconhouse Sri Inai we follow the Development Matters curriculum guidance. The guidance covers several Areas of Learning and Development and is designed to help Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) teachers provide quality education and give children the best start in life.

Development Matters is underpinned by four themes:

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development

Development Matters also focuses on five main areas of child development in the EYFS, which are:

  • Cognitive - problem solving and mental skills
  • Social and Emotional - how children interact with others, managing and expressing feelings
  • Speech and Language - communication, spoken and written language
  • Fine Motor Skills - interacting with and using objects
  • Gross Motor Skills - physical movement from walking to sports

The Early Years Learning Goals (ELGs) are designed to assess

The Early Learning Goals (ELGs) are designed to assess and track how children progress through the Early Years Foundation Stage before they move on to Key Stage 1, with the understanding that individuals will develop at different rates. The goals are:

  • Communication and Language Development (CLD)
  • Physical Development (PD)
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
  • Literacy (L)
  • Mathematics (M)
  • Understanding the World (UtW)
  • Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
